Furnas Lake was declared a Minas Gerais heritage by Legislative Assembly, in the beginning of last December. The Amendment also determined a minimum quota of 762 meters above sea level for the Furnas Lake and 663 meters for Peixoto Lake, which is also located in the Rio Grande Basin, “in order to ensure the multiple use of water, notably for tourism, agriculture and fish farming ”, says the Amendment.
Pro-Furnas Movement 762 initiated discussions on the situation of Lake Furnas and Peixoto. The Movement’s leaders congratulated Minas Gerais assemblymen for the Constitutional Amendment and affirmed that “we hope that from now on, all politicians, institutions and, especially, the people of Minas Gerais will get even more united, as the fight continues at the federal level and won’t stop until that minimum quotas of 762 and 663 meters are respected ”.
COOMAP supports the Pro-Furnas Movement 762. Last June, the Cooperative and the Commercial Association – ACIAP / CDL donated 150 T-shirts with the words “Everybody for Furnas and Peixoto #lutamineiro”. They have been used in dozens of cities to help raise awareness among politicians and residents about the level of the two lakes. This way, COOMAP exercises its citizenship role, participating in projects that aim at the common good.
