Technicians and other employees of COOMAP Sustainability Department participated in disease control training in certified coffee trees last July 9th, in the Cooperative auditorium, following all safety rules. Training was conducted by Professor Edson Ampélio Pozza, who holds a PhD in Phytopathology and is a professor in epidemiology and plant disease management at the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA).
Professor Pozza spoke, among other subjects, about how to mitigate risk in agrochemical applications, plant mineral nutrition , methods for keeping water availability in the soil, organic matter availability, biological control, irrigation and use of cultivars that are more resistant to pests and diseases. “Certifiers’ requirements for certified coffee production are quite strict and we have to get adapted to these requirements, which actually reflect globalized consumer’s ideas,” said the professor.
With this course, COOMAP meets one of its constant challenges, which is continuous improvement. By valuing professionals through staff training their work will be more focused on the sustainable development of COOMAP members.
