From September 21st to 23rd COOMAP participated in the International Coffee Week in Belo Horizonte.
According to the event website, the International Coffee Week (SIC, in portuguese) is a meeting involving coffee growers, roasters, baristas, cafeterias owners and coffee lovers. The event happens in the capital of the major grower state in Brazil – Belo Horizonte – and presents several opportunities and actions to thousands of professionals from all over the world that are focused in areas like Market and Consumption, Knowledge and Innovation and Business and Entrepreneurship. The event is one of the main promotion initiatives for the coffee produced in Minas Gerais and in Brazil and has as main target to develop the brazilian market and spread the high quality level of Brazilian coffees to the domestic market and to buyer countries. Furthermore, this work increases this sector economical and social result.
Since this is such an important event, COOMAP had a double participation at it. Fist at BRFair (Brazilian Fairtrade Growers Organizations Association) booth, where the aim was to spread Fair Trade Coffee, one of the certifications held by COOMAP. COOMAP also participated in the contest to elect the best fair trade coffees in Brazil and in the end it was included in the top 10.
Another highlight of the event for COOMAP was the excursion organized by the cooperative. It took 40 people, including members and technicians to the event. This is such an important initiative because it gives the growers the chance to understand the range of their work, see how huge coffee Market is, comprehend the importance of sustainability and how necessary it is to focus on improving coffee quality.
