In February, 17th 2016 COOMAP welcomed visitors from a Swiss company interested in the coffee sold by COOMAP with the Fairtrade Certification. The delegation of four North Americans, one Argentine and one Colombian, in addition to a six-Brazilian staff from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters company was introduced to the work developed by COOMAP which focus on environmental projects that are being established or are intended to be in Paraguaçu. The company Empresa Interagrícola S/A – EISA, by means of its representatives, conducted Green Mountain until Paraguaçu, making this meeting possible. Green Mountain, a fairtrade coffee buyer, came to us because of a social environmental project that consists in recovering water springs. It takes place at the cooperative members’ farms in our town. That’s an initiative toward improving the quality of the water consumed by our members at their residences. This project was sent to Eisa which showed interest in COOMAP’s purpose of improving the water standards. Afterwards, the project was sent to Switzerland and it was pre-approved by Green Mountain Company, which came here to know in details this action and sign an agreement with COOMAP to further the acquisition of chlorinators and filters that will be used to treat water at our member’s properties. It’s worth highlighting that recovering a spring is essential to increase water flow in a place. It’s also necessary to protect riparian vegetation that surrounds water sources, thus in the project there will be native trees seedlings distribution to our members. Theses will be planted in order to protect even more this very important resource – water. COOMAP is thankful to Eisa directors, represented by Mr. Santana and Mr. Virgilio, to the professionals from the sustainability sector, Daniel and André. We also thank Hugo Swerts, owner of Café Responsável trading company.
